Although each individual ant is a living organism in its own right, ant colonies depend on the combined efforts of – and complex cooperation between – each of these individuals in order to function. The “brains” of the operation, then, is not centralised, but dispersed among each and every individual. As such, they are an apt metaphor for the decentralized nature of the blockchain, and, in turn, this decentralized community.

Moreover, there are various subsections within an ant colony, each of which serving a separate, distinct function. Likewise, the AntNetworX comprises a number of different apps - each with its own distinct function - which, when combined, amount to more than the sum of their parts.

Finally, ants are known for their work ethos: they are formidable, industrious creatures! Given that one of the core utilities in the AntNetworX is the freelancer marketplace, it seemed fitting that the wider network should be named in honor of such an industrious species!
